Paragliding is probably one of the only ways we humans can feel like we have wings. It can also be a super dangerous sport.

According to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, a paraglider crashed this Saturday just after 2:40 p.m. west of Wonderland Lake north of Boulder between Spring Valley and Pine Needle roads. Emergency crews responded and found the pilot alive, but unconscious and critically injured.

Because the crash site was east of the ridgeline on steep terrain, rescuers had to hike about a half mile from the nearest access point and were able to get to the victim just before 3 p.m.

The unidentified, 50-something-year-old victim was airlifted from the crash site to Saint Anthony's Hospital in Lakewood.

It's believed the victim's injuries are life-threatening, though I haven't been able to find reports that he's succumbed to his injuries. Cause and circumstances surrounding the crash are not yet known but an investigation has been put in place.

We're hoping the victim can pull through this ordeal alive and well, and our thoughts are with him, his family, and friends during this scary time.
