Cheyenne police say an officer was shot while responding to a domestic disturbance in south Cheyenne this (Friday) evening.

Officer Kevin Malatesta says police were called to 935 W. 6th Street around 5:20 p.m.

"During a scuffle with the suspect, a firearm was discharged, striking an officer in the foot," said Malatesta. "The injured officer was transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for treatment and is in stable condition."

"Nobody else was injured during the encounter," Malatesta added.

The suspect in the disturbance, 26-year-old Joseph Jacquez of Cheyenne, is currently in police custody and has yet to be charged.

The case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.
