The four new movies opening in theaters this weekend include everything from action to heartwarming family fare to Whitney Houston’s last big-screen appearance.

‘The Odd Life of Timothy Green,’ which bows on Wednesday, is the story of a married couple surprised by the sudden arrival of a young boy on their doorstep, who teaches them that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.

In ‘The Expendables 2,’ Sylvester Stallone and the gang are reunited for something that’s supposed to be a simple job — but of course turns out to be far more complicated.

‘ParaNorman’ is the tale of a boy who can speak with the dead, becoming the only one who can defend his town against a centuries-old curse that causes zombies, ghosts and witches to attack.

And ‘Sparkle,’ the late Whitney Houston’s last movie, sees her as the mother of a musical prodigy who struggles to become a star while overcoming issues that are tearing her family apart.
