Moxie Java Closing Their Doors May 28th
It was with great sadness that I found a red sign on the door of Moxie Java in Ft. Collins yesterday. It said that due to a rent increase by their landlord they will be forced to shut their doors on May 28th.
Moxie has been here for 9 ½ years and is one of my favorite coffee joints in town (as referenced in our “Best Coffee In Fort Collins” post a while back).
My wife was dumbfounded by the news, her and her co-workers have made a second home at Moxie and all of them seem to be very upset about the closing. I sat there yesterday and listened to the baristas explain the closing to about 6 different customers. Each one looked visibly shaken by the news.
That’s just the kind of coffee shop Moxie is, they made everyone there feel like friends and family.
No more “super baristas” on the wall, no more sugar-free/fat-free any drink you want, no more Moxie-Mondays...no more Moxie Java.
Sadly, not only will the shop be shutting down, but that means 10 of the friendliest baristas around will also be out of work. It’s tough to imagine what would drive a landlord to increase rent so much that tenants are forced out of business, but times are tough all around.
We asked them if they planned to relocate, but with the costs and regulations of the Moxie franchising they said it would be darn near impossible to make it work.
They are encouraging anyone who has a gift card to come in and use
them before the store closes, and that they will be selling off everything they can from the store in the coming weeks.
Moxie…you will be missed!

Dear Moxie Java Patrons,
As of Saturday, May 28th, Moxie Java will be shutting down. Due to a lease rate that we are not able to continue to support. We are so sorry it has to be so abrupt.
The last 9 1/2 years here have been amazing. We will miss each and everyone of you.
