Mother Arrested After Child Walks to Park Alone

To me this seems really ridiculous and unnecessary.

A Florida mother found herself in some trouble after she let her son walk to a park, alone.  The park is about 10 minutes from their house and while the 7-year-old was walking there somebody asked him where his mother was. He panicked and ran to the park where the cops found him.

The cops questioned him and took him home and then arrested his mother for child neglect. The mother says that he is old enough to go to the park and that he has a cell phone to check on him. She plans to fight the charges.

I used to walk by myself all the time to the park and what not when I was younger. What is going on with the world?
