Today's dumb criminal story comes from a high speed car chase that had me glued to the TV all morning. A guy stole a car at a gas station in Longmont, with a 4-year-old child in it. He then proceeded to lead police on a near two-hour chase where he carjacked two other vehicles.

Thankfully the missing boy was found safe, the ordeal ended with a foot-chase and an arrest of the carjacker. 28-year-old Ryan Stone was apprehended and faces a laundry list of serious charges against him.(He's no stranger to crime, he has a lot of previous violent crimes to his name.)

Watching the chase, I lost count of how many traffic violations he committed and how many other cars he clipped or damaged during his rampage. He easily could have seriously hurt or killed dozens of different people during the close calls. During the first hour or so he had a four-year-old kid in the backseat of the car he'd stolen. I can't even imagine that that poor mother must have been going through!

That's why he makes my dumb criminal list, he put hundreds of other lives at risk for his own devious and selfish reasons. He didn't't even look like he had a plan (not that that would have made it any better), he was flipping u-turns, getting lost, and driving in circles. To me the best part of the chase was after he tried to escape on foot, by then we knew everyone else was safe and police had him surrounded, and numb-skull here slips and falls on the ice. For some reason that added just a little insult to this scumbag's incredibly stupid and dangerous scheme.

Here is some footage from the chase.
