“What would you do differently is this was your last day on earth?”

That is a question I have seen about 4-thousand times this week in some form or another. It's a question I am sick of hearing and a question that, to me, doesn’t even need to be asked. If today were my last day, I would plan to live my life, just like I do every other day.

Look, I’m not trying to be all preachy and holier-than-though about anything, I’m just saying if you have a laundry list of things you’d do differently if you thought the world was ending, you might want to re-evaluate things in your life in general.
I know the world isn’t coming to an end tomorrow in some Mayan-predicted apocalypse, but even if it were, what would I do? I would try and share some laughs with friends and colleagues, which I try to do every day. I would hug my little girl and tell her I love, just like I do every day. I’d give my wife a kiss and tell her I love her, like I do every day. I’d play fetch with my dogs, just like I should do every day.
Maybe I have a different view than the “average” person because I already had to face my own mortality once when I battled cancer as a teenager, but I don’t care what God (or gods) you do, or don’t believe in, I don’t care what you believe about the afterlife or lack-there-of, every second of we have on this earth is precious.
Everything we do in life is a balance of our past experiences and our hopes for the future helping to shape what we do and think. The only thing you are guaranteed in this life is the breath you’re taking right now. That’s it.
So make the most of it.
Make the most of that breath because you can, not because you’re afraid you might not take another.

So, cheers to you and cheers to me, let's make today a great day. And then let's do it again tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that...
