Learning to play a new sport can be intimidating. First, you have to figure out the rules and how to use all of the necessary equipment, plus pick up on strategies and specifics of the game that you are probably completely unfamiliar with. Luckily for those wanting to get into the sport of golf, there is a course in Loveland that's specifically geared towards welcoming beginners and newcomers of the game.

Located next to Cattail Creek Golf Course is the 9-hole S.N.A.G. facility, an acronym that stands for Starting New at Golf. Loveland is the national leader when it comes to introducing this S.N.A.G. course, which was created back in 2012. The idea of S.N.A.G. is that it's comparable to the real sport of golf, however players use modified equipment that makes it much easier, and more fun, to learn the basic fundamentals. For instance, to limit the flight distance and increase safety, the ball is designed more similarly to a tennis ball. Instead of a full bag of steel or graphite clubs, only two are used in the game of S.N.A.G. – these being oversized, plastic, and the correct length and weight for people of all ages to use. The goal of the sport is to train new players how to chip, putt, and pitch, rather than having them just hit ball after ball on a driving range. There are also four self-teaching stations throughout the mini-course that allow players to practice different strokes and to learn how to better manage the course in a more simplified way.

Kids and adults of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to try out the S.N.A.G. course, and lessons are also available to those who are interested. Rates for a 9-hole round are $7 for adults, $6 for players between the ages of 5-12, and free for kids under the age of 4-years-old. Cattail Creek is located at 2116 West 29th Street in Loveland.
