World-famous cyclist and seven-time winner of the Tour de France Lance Armstrong has announced his retirement from the sport. The 39-year-old previously retired for 3 years in 2005, but he says this time it's for good, claiming his age is catching up with him.

“It has been an excellent ride,” he told The Associated Press. “I really thought I was going to win another Tour. Then I lined up like everybody else and wound up third.”

He says he has more family responsibilities and his 39 year body is probably feeling the rigors of such an intense lifestyle.  I'm sure he'll be happy to answer a few less questions about hi doping case too.  He is is still under investigation of performance-enhancing drug use.

Armstrong emerged in the cycling world after a life-threatening bout with testicular cancer to win his first tour back in 1999.
