The internet is a place of connection, knowledge and a complex danger that often lures our children in. The Fort Collins Police Services are putting on free family seminars for you to learn how to keep your kids safe on the internet from sexual predators, cyberbullying sexting, online grooming and more. There are several dates coming up March 1, May 3 and June 7.

We'll split up into 3 groups for age-appropriate discussions - tweens (ages 8-12), teenagers (ages 13-18), and adults. It can be uncomfortable to initiate discussions about these issues, and many parents don't even know where to start. This presentation is a great way to begin the conversation as a family. Why is it important to talk about Internet safety?

Research shows that...
* 1 in 5 kids are subjected to unwanted sexual solicitation on the Internet.
* 1 in 5 teens ages 13-19 are taking photographs of their intimate parts and sending them to friends.
* 25% of kids sexually solicited on the Internet told an adult.
* 64% of teens report posting personal photos on the Internet and 58% report posting personal information, such as where they live.

The presentation will be held on March 1 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Fort Collins Police Community Room (2221 S. Timberline Rd). For more information or to register, contact Randine Nelson at 970-416-2384 or rnelson@fcgov.com. The event is free, but registration is required.
