I'll be the one dancing with my eyes closed at the Toad The Wet Sprocket show at Mishawaka Amphitheatre on July 3rd.  I am an uber fan.

The voice of Glen Phillips reminds me of simpler days in my life.  Being 13 years old in the early 90's,  I was awkwardly learning how to be social after attending public school for the first time since being home schooled.  So like most teenagers I found identity in music and I got really into the sound of alternative rock music.  I found myself attracted to the sounds of heartache worn in flannel shirts.  It felt raw and new.

Phillips Talks About The 90's Music Scene

In a recent interview Glen Phillips told me what it was like to be a part of the 90's music scene when "people still had to find their bands manually"

Middle Class Music And How Phillips Still Has To Work

One of the most successful alternative rock bands of the early 1990's, Toad the Wet Sprocket took their name from a Monty Python comedy sketch. Toad the Wet Sprocket's songs have been used in the soundtracks of over a dozen movies and episodes of television series including Buffy The Vampire Slayer, My So-Called Life and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Even with all those royalty checks Glen Phillips says he still has to work to make "ends meet" and says "it's a weird era in middle class music"

This Won't Be One Of Toad's "Booty Call Tours"

They have broken up, spent time on solo projects, toured together and now officially got back together as Toad The Wet Sprocket.  Glen Phillips says this won't be one of their so called "booty call tours" (probably not what you're thinking)

Hit Songs He Wrote 20 Years Ago

Many of their hit songs were written in the early 90's, almost 20 years ago.  I wondered if they have change they way they perform their hits and if Glen Phillps can still relate to the lyrics he wrote then, or as he puts it "all the songs about how depressed I was"

Phillips Discusses His Family

loading...

I asked Glen Phillips if his family ever tours with him and he sarcastically said "not in a compact car" which he told me was a "Scion, the boxey one, not the fancy one." His wife is a home birth midwife (one of my passions) and Glen says she is recognized more at the farmers market than he is.

You have two chances to see Toad The Wet Sprocket this weekend.

And now let's take a walk down sing along lane with some videos
