The Victoria's Secret Fashion showed aired last night and it got me thinking, just who is Victoria and what is her secret? I mean, who is the woman who loves her bras so much that she gets to charge $55 for them and we buy them! Turns out there is still as much mystery around the name as you may expect.  The company was founded when Roy Raymond realized it was really hard for a man to shop for lingerie for his wife.  He thought about it and decided to start a company where men would feel comfortable coming in and not have to worry about being eyed by all the women in the department store.

Raymond borrowed 80-thousand dollars and opened Victoria's Secret.  Here's the catch - his wife is not Victoria, but Gaye.  He never has told anyone who Victoria was or if there really was one.  He does admit that he originally designed the store using a Victorian-inspired theme.  Which kind of sounds like a guy forced to explain to his wife "who is Victoria" and he just kind of started talking and that's what came out of his mouth.

As for Raymond, he sold the business in 1982 to Leslie Wexner of The Limited, for about a million dollars.

As for us, had Raymond used his wife's name we would all be wearing lingerie from Gaye Secret.
