I honestly had no idea of what this movie was about. I knew that it was based off of a book, but that's about it. This movie is a perfect example of the trailer not telling you anything about the movie. The trailer just makes it seem that it is about a dude from Earth that somehow ends up on Mars as a slave to a bunch of green aliens. At least, that's what I got from it. The movie itself is much more than that.It starts out giving a quick story about Mars and then it jumps to the old west on Earth. Random right? The good thing about a good story/movie is how it answers questions that you may have. This movie jumped around a lot and at time it could get confusing, but they did a good job of explaining everything.

Here is a quick rundown of the story with no spoilers. John Carter is a man from the wild west that ends up on Mars (I am not going to tell you how) and ends up being part of an alien tribe. The explain that there is a war going on and he tries to stay out of it. He ends up saving a princess and she tries to get him to help because on Mars.

That's all I am going to say. The movie was pretty good, especially since I had no idea what it was about. It was visually cool and the story was pretty decent and kept you focused. Though in the middle it did get kind of slow but, they did a good job of mixing humor into the film so it didn't feel too slow. That being said the movie does have a run time of 2 hours and 20 min, so just keep that in mind if you get antsy at long movies.

Overall, it was entertaining and a decent story. I give it 31/2 out of 5 aliens.

'John Carter' is Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action.
