Don’t be alarmed if you hear lots of loud noises and even see smoke coming from Hughes Stadium later this week – these are all planned, and part of two active violence/mass casualty training sessions that will be taking place on June 20 and again June 22.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office will be leading exercises to prepare local agencies in case an active violence or mass casualty incident were to occur in Larimer County. Training will include personnel from the LCSO, Timnath Police Department, Colorado State University Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Larimer County Park Rangers, Poudre Fire Authority, Windsor Severance Fire Rescue, Loveland Fire Rescue Authority, and UC Health/Poudre Valley EMS. The exercises will be specifically focused on providing these organizations with consistent training, familiarization with other agencies in the area, mutual aid/resource mobilization, and how to facilitate a smooth coordinated effort in case this type of emergency should happen.

Residents in the area can expect to see a large amount of emergency vehicles throughout the day, and may hear things such as simulated gunshots, explosions, or see smoke as a result of these drills. Training signs will be posted around the property to alert people what is going on, and the sheriff’s office requests that community members please avoid the area until all emergency vehicles have left and training is done for the day.
