When you calculate how many diapers I've changed in the last 5 years of having 3 small kids, it's somewhere over 15,500 and going strong. That number is not a joke. Do the diaper math before you consider having kids or it'll really freak you out. And along with diaper wearing little ones comes diaper rash. We've lucked out and only had really bad cases a couple of times. But, when it's bad, it's the worst thing to deal with. Here is what I have learned from my fellow Colorado moms and put to the test on my own kids.

When diaper rash is severe, as in, the cream-ain't-cutting-it, you have to do a little butt soak. Your kid will hate this at first, until he feels how soothing it is on his burning rear. He'll just be so glad you're not trying to use a wipe, because those hurt when you have diaper rash. It's a bath with apple cider vinegar and baking soda. Yep, things you eat, can also help diaper rash. Isn't that neat? I use this little wash basin so the mixture would be potent without wasting so much water. I added about 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar and it MUST be apple cider vinegar, it's a ph thing. Then I added roughly 3 Tablespoons of baking soda. The water turns soft and smells like vinegar and starts healing the butt instantly. I have also used this mixture on dogs with skin rashes in the past. It's pretty amazing. After the bath, let the bum air dry and then apply some kind of cream, as a protective layer against the enemy known as "acid pee". I use Aquaphor or Butt Paste.

RECIPE: to warm bath water add 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar and 3 Tablespoons of baking soda. You should be able to smell the vinegar.

My name is Kama and I'm a Mom...and that just freaks me out sometimes. I'm a bunch of other things that used to seem really important, but somehow being a Mom blurs those other things into mush. I have a 5 year-old daughter and 2 year-old twin boys. Everyday I have a "holy s**t, I can't believe I'm a Mom" moment and those get shared here.
