One week and almost two days after it started, the Hewlett Fire was officially contained last night.

The fire is located approximately 20 miles northwest of Fort Collins, 10 miles west of the junction of Hwy 14 and Hwy 287 near the Hewlett Gulch Trail in the Poudre Canyon. It has burned 1,322 acres of private land, 245 acres of state land and 6,118 acres of U.S. Forest Service land, which means the fire was 7,685 acres total, according to fire officials. The fire has cost $3.2 million to battle.

The fire will transition Wednesday morning to a Type 3 Incident Management Team from the Type 2 team who has been managing the fire since last Tuesday.
