The Greeley Blues Jam is on the way this weekend, and I've got three blues rock songs that weren't written by who you'd think they were. They'll get you feeling blue... in a good way, of course.

The Animals - House of the Rising Sun

This is probably the song the Animals are best known for to this day, as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame noted, 'House of the Rising Sun,' by the Animals spent three weeks at #1 on the charts in 1964, 'making them the first British group to top the U.S. charts with a song not written by Lennon and McCartney.'

But, the '60s blues rock hit wasn't the original work of the British Invasion band, so who did write it? No one really knows, but the traditional folk song is believed to have been written in the late 1800s about New Orleans.

Fleetwood Mac - Black Magic Woman

You probably know the song because of Santana, but it was actually originally done by Fleetwood Mac in the late 1960s. (Not to be confused with 'Gold Dust Woman.') [source: last.fm]

The Black Keys - Wicked Messenger

OK, you probably know that this is by Bob Dylan, but I can't write about blues rock and not mention one of my favorite bands, the Black Keys. Love you, Dan.
