On Sunday night, Gavin DeGraw met up with some friends for a night out in Manhattan.

On Monday morning, he was in the hospital with a broken nose.

Police say DeGraw was assaulted on the street by a “pack of thugs” around 4:30 a.m. on Monday — and then hit by a cab as he tried to get away from his attackers. According to a statement later issued by his representatives, “Gavin DeGraw was assaulted … and was taken to the emergency room at Bellevue Hospital by ambulance. He is currently under observation. We have no additional information at this time.”

DeGraw, who has recently been on tour with Train and Maroon 5, is described as being in “stable condition.” His next album, ‘Sweeter,’ is scheduled for a September 20 release.
