Bad news, everyone! After enjoying a two-season comeback and a series of DVD movies, it seems 'Futurama' will once again retire the Planet Express ship, ending its revived run on Comedy Central after the next 13 episodes. The comedy network officially opted not to renew past a seventh season, but is 'Futurama' really gone for good this time? Might producers find yet another avenue to continue?

'Futurama' fans grew elated at multiple points in the last few years, as the beloved FOX comedy from 'Simpsons' creator Matt Groening and David X. Cohen returned from the ashes for a series of straight-to-DVD movies, and two additional seasons on Comedy Central. Now, however, the rebirth of 'Futurama' seems to have come to another end, as revealed by Entertainment Weekly, that the network has opted not to renew beyond the next 13 episodes.

“I felt like we were already in the bonus round on these last couple of seasons, so I can’t say I was devastated by the news,” Cohen told EW. “It was what I had expected two years earlier. At this point I keep a suitcase by my office door so I can be cancelled at a moment’s notice.” Comedy Central’s Executive Vice President Dave Bernath said of the "natural end" to the series:

That’s a helluva run that few shows achieve, and especially given the fact that it came back to life, it’s really an amazing story. I’m more thankful and feel a sense of gratitude toward the whole process — and that we found a way to keep going for 52 more episodes — than I really am even thinking about the ending. It’s a blessing that it came back and lasted so long.

Of course, preliminary talks are already in place to continue 'Futurama' in some format, though nothing should be viewed as official. “We’ve been in this situation before and it’s tempting when you’re doing episodes that are as good or better than anything you’ve ever done to continue doing it,” Groening said. “We’re catching our breath and seeing what the fans have to say."

Well, what say you? Are you sad that 'Futurama' has once again come to a close, or had the Emmy-winning series enjoyed enough of a revival on Comedy Central? Plenty of guest stars and emotional episodes await in the final 13 episodes beginning June 19, so check out the latest trailer below, and tell us what you think in the comments!
