Fort Collins Woman Receives Scam Phone Call, State Warns Residents to Be Cautious
There is another scam happening in Colorado. The state insurance division wants residents to be aware of a scam that involves a telephone call from someone posing as a person from “Colorado Insurance Commission” and asking for personal banking information.
A Fort Collins realtor, Kathy Mahaffey, told the Coloradoan she received a strange phone.
“It just took me totally by shock because of the Medicaid part,” she said. “It just didn’t make sense.”
The man told her she’d been mailed a refund in co-pays amounting to $399, but the check was sent to the wrong address and returned. And she’d have to go to a bank in Denver to pick it up. Because Denver is far away, he said he could just put it in her bank account if she gave him the information.
