This is not news I'm happy to hear; Taverna Greek Grill in Fort Collins has closed down! That place was one of my favorites. Now where am I going to find dancing servers, flaming cheese and the chance to smash a plate while shouting, "Opa!"

According to the Coloradoan, a note was put up on the doors of the restaurant on December 21, 2013 that said,

Taverna Greek Grill is no longer an open establishment. We would like to thank everyone for their patronage over the past 3 years. Happy Holidays!

You can read more about the closing from the Coloradoan here. The Fort Collins Taverna location was located at 4235 S. College Avenue. It is no longer listed on the Taverna website (they still have their original location in Arizona) and it appears the Fort Collins Taverna Facebook page has been deleted as well.

I am seriously bummed out, Taverna was truly one of my favorite places around town to eat at and they even sponsored the food at one my of 'Beano's Bowling for Make-A-Wish events.

Looks like I'll have to stick to Yum Yum's, Garbonzo and Cafe Athens when I want my Greek food fix. Are there any other Greek restaurants in town that I should know about? Let me know in the comments below.

The only silver lining I see here is that a new Greek restaurant call Akropolis may be moving in to the old Taverna location in early January, at least that's the rumor from Feasting Fort Collins.
