The Fort Collins City Council will consider additional smoking restrictions at their Feb. 3 meeting. Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts on the proposed restrictions through a brief, anonymous survey at fcgov.com/smoking. The survey will be open through Jan. 16. The proposal includes a smoking ban for the following:

  • Expanded Downtown area, that encompasses the bike dismount zone
  • All City owned or operated facilities and their grounds
  • All City parks, trails, and natural areas
  • Most City-approved events and festivals

In January 2014, a new ordinance went into effect prohibiting smoking at outdoor dining areas, bar patios, and Transfort stops and facilities.

In April 2014, City Council directed staff to explore further restrictions to include electronic smoking devices (effective July 2014), 100 percent of all hotel/motel rooms (effective January 2015), as well as the Old Town/Downtown area; natural areas, parks, and trails; and City-approved public events. Restrictions in an expanded Downtown area and at all City-owned or operated facilities and their grounds were discussed at a Council work session in November 2014.
