A Fort Collins man was arrested this week after a traffic stop and a short foot chase in Loveland. On Wednesday at about 10:45 p.m., a Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy made a traffic stop at North Garfield Avenue and East 50th Street in Loveland after seeing a vehicle weaving in Traffic. As the deputy talked to the driver, he noticed the suspect might be drunk so he asked him to step out of the vehicle.

The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Arnet Emile Cotton of Fort Collins, ran from the deputy and through a field toward Basswood Drive. The deputy pursued Cotton on foot and eventually he fell to the ground and a citizen held him down until the deputy arrived and took him into custody without further incident. No one was injured.

Cotton was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics. He also dropped drug paraphernalia and a handgun in the field . A second handgun and drug paraphernalia were also found in the vehicle.

Charges Facing Arnet Cotton

Cotton was booked into the Larimer County Jail on the following allegations and his bond was set at $5,000:

  • Possession of Weapon by Previous Offender
  • Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance
  • DUI – Alcohol or Drugs
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Driving After Revocation
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Three Traffic Infractions
