They had expected to break ground on a new affordable-housing project in the summer of 2013. They finally did begin a new, different project in mid-November of 2015.

A place that was once known for good times, will soon be known for doing good.

From July of 1993, to the end of the season in 2005, Crystal Rapids Water Park was a Loveland treat.  There was nothing like in the area. In the end, though, it just wasn’t enough to compete with Water World in Denver. TRI 102.5 even did several live broadcasts from Crystal Rapids in its heyday!

In 2012, the Housing Authority of Loveland announced that they had purchased the closed 4 ½ acre property, and the plans were to put affordable housing there at Eisenhower and Boyd Lake.

"Our goal is to create quality, energy-efficient workforce housing targeted primarily at employees of Centerra and the outlet mall," Sam Betters, executive director of the Housing Authority, said in the press release. "Our intent is to bring additional affordable housing options close to where those employees work."

They broke ground on ‘The Edge’, a $20M project, on November 19, 2015. The project has changed a little bit from its first inception. The affordable housing complex is slated to open in the fall of 2016. It will have 70 apartments; the new plan has 10 of them being specifically for homeless Veterans who are currently in temporary housing. The remainder of the units will be leased to people who have been displaced by the 2012 High Park Fire and the 2013 Front Range Flood.

There is a little bit of irony, that the former water park will be helping flood victims, right?

The Edge should end up being a great symbol of Loveland's commitment to its community.
