We are transforming our annual Junior Jam into an exciting event just for the region’s 13-18 year old audience (middle and high school-aged students). The event will be held at a new location this year, an outdoor venue easily accessible by bicycle in Old Town Fort Collins.
This is a Northern Colorado music and extreme sports event featuring: home-grown bands, BMX bike demos, skateboard demos, food trucks, festival vendors, henna tattoo artists, rock climbing walls and so much more.
Our online Battle of the Bands Competition will deliver four finalist bands who will each perform a set for our panel of local music experts on the Western Nebraska Community College main stage; they will crown the best band in Northern Colorado and award the following cash prizes to the finalists:
First Place: $1,000 cash + band launch services
Second Place: $500 cash
Third + Fourth Place: $250 cash

In The Whale is our featured headline band for the afternoon. In The Whale originally formed in the small town of Greeley, Colorado as a fun escape from their main bands. When those bands dissolved, it quickly became their focus, and in February of 2011 they moved to Denver to be a part of the music scene and try to build a legitimate fan base.
Since their move, they have been the name on everyone’s lips, as an answer to the current musical climate of too much reverb and not enough balls. The band started 2012 with an EP release show, selling out the Hi-Dive, a 300 capacity venue and the go to spot for up and coming Denver bands. The EP, “Cake,” is dirty and aggressive, yet surprisingly light-hearted (think Eagles of Death Metal meets The White Stripes).
With an undeniable live show and a tenacious work ethic, this local Denver band won’t be local for long. Brace yourself.
