As irony would have it, it was just a two days after Oscars were handed out, that Eddie Ray Routh was found guilty in the murder of former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle.

It was at the Rough Creek Ranch-Lodge-Resort shooting range in Erath County, Texas when a former Marine shot and killed not only Chris Kyle, but also Chad Littlefield on February 2, 2013. Both Kyle and Littlefield had been armed with pistols but both were still holstered. To add insult, to death, both men were killed by weapons that were owned by Kyle. Kyle was shot with a .45; Littlefield a 9mm Sig Sauer.

Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield, who was Kyle's neighbor and workout friend, had taken Routh, at the request of his Mother, to the gun range in support of the former Marine who had long since battled PTSD. It was their way of helping another veteran who needed help that only another veteran could understand and it was Kyle who saw the need to be there for him.

What did he get for showing compassion? Shot in the back, with is own weapon. Routh then left the scene in Kyle's truck, went to the home of his sister and told her what he had done then after a short chase, was apprehended after wrecking the vehicle. It's still not clear why Routh murdered the two, but this is his quote that night while being interviewed by a Texas Ranger,

I told her I had to kill a man today. It wasn't, it wasn't a want to, or a need to, it was a need. I had to to get out of that situation I was in today - Eddie Ray Routh/February 2013

His defense said he was "delusional" and due to his PTSD, thought Kyle and Littlefield wre trying to kill him. It took less than two hours to find Eddie Ray Routh (who was pleading not guilty) guilty of the murder of Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefeield. Trial judge, Jason Cashon, immediately sentenced Routh to life in prison with no possibility of parole. Justice has been served!

Author's Note: Routh's defense team have already gone on record by saying the conviction will be appealed so this is long from over and I'm sure we'll see them try the "insanity" plea one more time.
