Download Mobile Video Slowly by ‘Drip-Casting,’ Save Money?

A new concept the wireless industry is calling ‘drip-casting’ could save you money, if you’re willing to spend more time. The process is described as downloading mobile media, like videos, slower over time to save consumers money on their data usage. Verizon Wireless says the new concept will stop network overload and put keep some money in your pocket.

The shift, which will happen as early as this year, involves a new concept the executive, Shadman Zafar, described- as drip-casting, where video is sent gradually to devices such as tablets.

This will come hand in hand with so-called smart charging, where operators would not charge for certain data downloads, Zafar said in an interview with Reuters at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
