When TV viewers chose the original American Idol...They chose well.

Last night I saw Kelly Clarkson and Matt Nathanson show off their talents at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. It was a heck of a show put on by both artists, and Kelly fans were certainly not disappointed. Check out my pictures from the show below and see some YouTube videos from last night well.

Derek and I had the privilege of meeting Clarkson before the show and she was absolutely adorable. She was all smiles and bubbling with energy. It was easy to see why so many fans are enamored with her. It's not often I see stars of that magnitude so genuinely happy to meet fans before a show.

Matt Nathanson opened the show up and played a tremendous set. He is a great performer and funny to boot. (He seems like the kind of guy I wish would follow me around to give my life a witty monologue and play theme music.) Very clever.

Kelly took the stage after an AC/DC song played for the crowd. She was all over the place; cover songs, acoustic songs, ballads, duets, singing out in the crowd, changing outfits, and of course her full gamut of hit songs.

I have to say that I was very impressed with her voice. She was running, walking, jumping and dancing all over the place and didn't seem to ever miss a beat or a note (and she never once complained about the altitude). She looked like she was having a great time, and by the sounds of the shrieking fans, they were it too.

On to some of the highlights:

Kelly did a cover I really liked of 'Heavy In Your Arms', originally by Florence + the Machine. Very dark, very ominous, and very cool. She actually sang that one from a chair in the middle of the crowd while her drummer and a guy playing electric cello were on stage.

Kelly played her duet, 'Don't You Wanna Stay', with a 30-foot tall Jason Aldean projected on stage. I'm not a huge fan of this song, but it was an impressive way to duet.

Then of course, the second to last song of the night was 'Stronger' and had the entire audience on its feet.

I couldn't find too many videos of Matt from last night, but he was very entertaining and, of course, played his latest hit 'Run'. For which he brought out a girl to sing who might have done it better than Jennifer Nettles did on the record.
