A Muslim woman from Denver has become the first model to wear a hijab for CoverGirl.

Denver resident Nura Afia joins the likes of Katy Perry, Sofia Vergara, and Ellen Degeneres in ads for CoverGirl's new So Lashy! BlastPro mascara, including a billboard in Times Square, television commercial, and other promotions for the next year.

Afia tells the Denver Post, "I feel like it shows girls that whatever you believe in, it doesn't matter if you're a Muslim or an Orthodox Jew, you can stick to your beliefs and pursue your dreams," adding that she believes it's important that all religions and races are represented.

This is the first time CoverGirl has ever chosen a woman in a hijab for any of its advertising campaigns, Denver7 reports.
