I've always considered myself to be pretty tall.  At 6-feet-3-inches, I'm taller than most people I come in contact with.  It's been that way for as long as I can remember.  It's also lead to more head bumps than I can count!  But every so often, someone comes along that makes me look short.  If I ever stood next to Igor Vovkovinskiy, I would feel like a toddler.

Vovkovinskiy, 29,  is the tallest man in the United States at 7-feet-8.33-inches tall; that's almost a foot and a half taller than me!  For most of his life, he's had a pretty debilitating problem: he can't find shoes that fit.

According to MSNBC, Vovkovinskiy was a teenager the last time he was able to buy shoes in a store.  After having 16 surgeries on his feet in the past five years, and being in constant pain and discomfort, Vovkovinskiy finally decided to see what it would take to have some shoes custom made.

...Vovkovinskiy contacted an array of shoe companies asking for help and guidance. An employee from just one of them — Reebok — got back to him, explaining that a new pair of custom-made shoes would cost him about $15,000 and would require him to have his feet scanned for creation of a special 3D model just for him.

So Vovkovinskiy started an online petition, trying to raise the money to fly out and have the shoes made.  His goal was $16,000; he raised almost $40,000.

Then, the people at Reebok were so moved by Vovkovinskiy's dedication, they decided to make his shoes free of charge.

He posted on his Web site: “Thank you so much to everyone who made this donation drive happen!!  I cannot believe my eyes at the amount and the generosity of the people. Thank you all.”

Looks like Igor's getting more than just one new pair of shoes!  Here's a short video just to give you an idea of how big he is.  It's nice to know people can still come together and support a cause like his!
