Daily Dose of Weird: Man Dies Trying to Set Record for Being Buried Alive
Here's a story with plenty of weird, and a healthy dose of "well duh" mixed in. Sometimes you just have to wonder, "What were they thinking?"
The weird part: Janaka Basnayake, a 24-year-old man from Sri Lanka was trying to beat a record for being buried alive. With the help of friends and family, he buried himself alive in a box 10 feet below the earth.
The "duh" part: He died.
Basnayake was buried at around 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Police said that when he was brought to the surface at 4 p.m., he was unconscious and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Apparently, doctors were unable to determine the cause of death with a routine post-mortem. Isn't it obvious? He died from being buried alive!
Officials are unsure whether an official record even exists for being buried alive. He could have just been going for a personal best.
