Should Infants Wear Safety Helmets? Daily Dose of Weird [VIDEO, POLL]

It seems like super-protective parenting has been a growing trend over the past few years.  Now, I'm not a parent (yet), but this invention seems like it might be talking things a little too far.

Thudguard is, literally, a baby helmet.  The idea is that once infants learn to move around, they put themselves in danger of serious head injury.  The Thudguard Web site asks readers to picture themselves in the tiny shoes of an infant:

Now imagine you have wobbly legs, you're only just finding your balance and you fall over more than you'd like to, because you're just learning to walk...What are the chances of you falling over and hitting something solid?  Most homes today have hardwood floors or tiles so statistically the chances are really high.

I have several friends with small children, and the one thing they all agree on is how resilient babies are.  None of the parents I know think occasional bumps on the noggin are a very big deal.  In fact, isn't falling over a big part of the early learning process for babies?  Some people might argue that raising children in sterile, padded environments doesn't adequately prepare them for the harshness of the real world.

Of course, I'm completely ignorant when it comes to the day-to-day of parenting, so maybe inventions like the Thudguard make complete sense.  What do you think?
