Colorado State University has received the largest gift in its history, $53.3 million to the engineering college for scholarships, faculty and research.

The gift is from Walter Scott Jr. of Omaha, Nebraska, a former board chairman of Colorado-based Level 3 Communications.

Scott is a 1953 graduate of CSU, which was known as Colorado A&M then. The engineering college will be renamed the Walter Scott Jr. College of Engineering.

CSU President Tony Frank had this to say:

Mr. Scott's support of our engineering programs over the years has been transformational, including his support of the Suzanne and Walter Scott, Jr. Bioengineering Building. This latest gift carries on that extraordinary legacy: It will expand a key scholarship program for outstanding undergraduate and graduate students; create a leadership program in the college; fund four new Presidential Chairs in water, health, energy, and the environment; support the development of infrastructure and laboratories to bolster education and research activities; and much more.
