When I first came across this story, I thought I was reading a synopsis for the next Paranormal Activity movie.  But no, apparently not!  This is a legit news story.  Well, I suppose that depends on what your definition of "legit" is; but all the same, it's definitely worth sharing!

Josue Chinchilla and  his fiancé, Michele Callan, moved into a New Jersey rental home with Callan's two daughters on March 1st.  They weren't even through their first night before they noticed something about the house wasn't quite right.

Over the next several days, the couple claims they heard weird sounds, and even recorded voices saying "let it burn."

What happened on the night of March 10 was the last straw. On that evening, Chinchilla told the Asbury Park Press, blankets started inexplicably sliding off his bed, and he felt an invisible grip on his arm. Callan added that she saw a "shapeless dark apparition" lurking nearby.

The family checked into a hotel on March 13th, saying they would be in "mortal danger" if they stayed in the house.

Okay, I'll admit, that's pretty creepy.  But here's where this story becomes a little more absurd.  They're suing the landlord for their security deposit.

The landlord won't relinquish their money, because he doesn't believe their ghost story (no, really??).  He says the couple just doesn't want to pay rent, so he's countersuing them for breaking their lease.

I worked in retail for over three years, and I heard a wide variety of absurd stories about why people wanted to return a purchase.  I'd have to say, though, none of them involved ghosts...

(WAIT! I take that back.  I once had a lady return a Ouija board because she said the room shook when she used it!)

I'm a fairly open-minded person, so I don't necessarily think the couple is lying; but they had to know a ghost story wasn't going to get them their deposit back, even if it is true!

Is this one of the most ridiculous things you've ever heard?  Leave a comment below, and I'll read it on the air!
