Petty theft doesn't often make news headlines, but when a man steals money from Girl Scouts selling cookies it gets people a little riled up. Especially when the money he stole was to buy cookies for military personnel serving overseas.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, a 21-year-old man was arrested for taking a tip jar from Girl Scouts selling cookies outside of a grocery store in Escondido, California.

The tips in the jar were part of 'Operation Thin Mint' where girls would collect tips to raise money to buy cookies and send them to military personnel overseas, but this guy thought a better place for the money was in his pocket.

Media outlets in California dubbed the man the 'Cookie Monster' after interviews of the girls describing the theft.

After the theft, Girl Scouts were shown on TV news outlets talking about the incident in which a man brazenly grabbed the jar and ran away, laughing.

The jar only contained about $40, but police and U.S. marshals tracked down the crook to his home and had to chase him down to arrest him.  He's no stranger to crime as he already had outstanding warrants related to battery and violation of a gang injunction.

Stealing a Girl Scout tip jar for soldiers?  That's just low.
