A popular park here in Colorado remains closed because people keep taking selfies with bears.

Waterton Canyon, a 20 minute drive southwest of Highlands Ranch, has been closed since August 28 after too many people attempted to take selfies with bears in the park. It hasn't re-opened since.

"We've actually seen people using selfie sticks to try and get as close to the bears as possible, sometimes within 10 feet of wild bears," said Denver Water's manager of recreation, Brandon Ransom.

With a higher population of bears and their cubs foraging the woods, and an average of 100,000 yearly visitors, management is worried that these dangerous selfies could lead to an attack in Waterton Canyon. Just before the park closed, a biker was chased in the canyon.

There have been no reports of bear-selfie attacks, and Denver Water wants to keep it that way.
