Two Cheyenne teenagers could face five to 25 years in prison after police caught them robbing a convenience store.

Seventeen-year-old Ramelle Wanstall and 18-year-old Tomas Moriel were arrested around 6:20 a.m. Saturday, after police responded to an armed robbery in progress at the Loaf ‘N Jug at 1922 E. Lincolnway.

An affidavit says Wanstall entered the store, pointed a BB gun pistol at the clerk, Rodney Powers, and repeatedly told him, “You’re gonna die. I want that money, n—–.”

While Wanstall was making threats and demanding money and cigarettes, another clerk, Ronald Adams, placed cash from the register and a bag of cigarettes on the counter.

Wanstall reportedly put the cash in his pocket and then proceeded to kick and muzzle-punch Powers, at which time Powers realized the gun was not a high-caliber firearm.
Powers was able to force the gun out of Wanstall’s hands and restrain him until police arrived.

Moriel, who was reportedly acting as a lookout during the robbery, had started to take off on foot before police arrived, but was captured by responding officers.

Police say Wanstall admitted to being part of the robbery as well as three prior robberies in Cheyenne.

Wanstall has been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and Moriel has been charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

Both teens’ bonds were set at $3,500 cash. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for October 17 in Laramie County Circuit Court.
