Are you ready for some football! Pop crooner Cee Lo Green plans to tackle the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football’ intro song.

To make things interesting, Green is asking fans to submit videos of themselves singing along to the chorus of the song, which is based on The Ramones‘ anthem ‘Blitzkrieg Bop.’ Starting with the ‘TNF”s Sept. 13 season opener between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears, fans of each team can submit videos of themselves singing along to the chorus — “Hey, ho, let’s go!” — which was made famous by the Ramones song.

“I think this brings a splash of color to a, you know, bland and black-and-white backdrop and make it colorful and make it fun and make it young. Make it exciting and highly enthusiastic,” Green tells the Associated Press (via Boston.com) about his unique redo of the theme song.

If there’s anybody who make a colorful tune, it’s Cee Lo Green. NFL Network producer Brian Lockhart hopes the crowd-sourcing ‘Fanthem’ will help the league increase its social media presence. “I don’t think sports has really taken a chance, especially broadcast sports, hadn’t taken that opportunity to go beyond maybe just having a Facebook page or a Twitter page,” he says. “We wanted to do something that went from broadcasting to fans and became more about engaging with fans.”

Green joins previous NFL prime-time intro crooners like Pink, Faith Hill and Hank Williams Jr., who exited with ESPN’s ‘Monday Night Football’ last year. Green describes the theme song as “accommodatingly ambiguous” with its amalgam of punk and hip-hop. ‘I’m definitely a Ramones fan,” he says. “Punk rock is like pots and pans, like making something out of nothing, which is what hip-hop is as well. I talk like a politician but I’m a punk at heart.”

Although Green will be cheering for the NFL network, he hopes some of it will transcend into a Super Bowl season for his hometown team the Atlanta Falcons. “I’m a definitely a Dirty Bird, man, to the death of me,” he says.

Hey, ho, let’s go Cee Lo!
