I try to make it no secret that I both love and hate the internet.  I love it for the vast amount of information we can find on damn near everything and cat videos. The reason I harbor a vitriolic attitude toward it at times is because of the meanness that a lot of people display. I think commenters on Facebook are the absolute worst which is why I prefer Twitter and Instagram but I digress.

A Brazilian company named Criola (an Afro-Brazilian civil rights organization) used geotagging to track down the locations of some of authors of anonymous racist comments aimed at a black weather reporter in Brazil.  Criola then bought space on billboards or on buses nearby and exposed the anonymous posts.  They did blur out the names and profile pictures of the users before putting up their hate for the world to see.

No word on whether this kind of idea will take off or if it's just reverse bullying.  It's just such a slippery slope when dealing with that sort of thing.

The internet may give us information but perhaps the worst thing it gave us was anonymity.  It was like a free pass not to be held accountable for our actions or words, which honestly I think is just chicken.  If you have the balls  gumption to say something online, you shouldn't be so afraid of what you're saying that you are doing it from behind a keyboard.  Note: this isn't a challenge, I just like to give people the benefit of doubt that face-to-face we are a lot better than what we pretend to be online.
