U.S. 85 is closed at 37th Street in Evans due to a confrontation with police that has led to a man being shot and killed. According to the Greeley Tribune, the suspect fired on police after the authorities responded to a trespassing call on Thursday morning (February 25, 2016) at approximately 1:30 a.m.

When the police arrived, two male suspects fled on foot as the officers pursued. While the pursuit was active, it was reported that the officers were fired upon by the suspects. Eventually, one of the suspects was taken into custody, while the search for the other continued. When they found the second suspect, he pulled out his firearm, prompting the police to open fire.

EMTs were called to the scene and immediately began to work on the suspect, however it was reported that the suspect did not survive, pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were hurt in the incident.

At this time, U.S. 85 at 37th Street in Evans is closed while the investigation continues.
