According to multiple news outlets, Westminster police  announced that the body they found in Arvada has been positively Identified as Jessica Ridgeway, the missing 10-year-old girl.

From 9News:

Westminster police announced Friday that the search for Jessica has turned into a mission for justice

The body was found not intact Wednesday by trash crews in the Pattridge Park Open Space area in Arvada. Authorities have spent the last two days working to identify the body and searching in and around the area for more evidence.

You can watch video of the press conference from 9News below.

Authorities discovered the body two days ago in the Pattridge Park Open Space area in Arvada, but the body was found not intact and it took two days to positively ID it. In that time investigators were also searching the area for more evidence that could lead to the killer.

This is not the ending we all hoped for.

Colorado Governor Jon Hickenlooper released this statement about the case:

This is an unthinkable end to an unthinkable crime in our community. It is with a profound sense of sorrow that we learned of Jessica Ridgeway’s death. On behalf of all of Colorado, we offer our deepest sympathies to her family and friends. The Colorado Department of Public Safety and other federal, state and local agencies involved in the case will continue to provide all of the support they can as the investigation continues.

If you have any information regarding the case, please get that information to the authorities and let's find justice for Jessica and her family! My heartfelt condolences go out to Jessica, her family and anyone close to her.

I hope whatever sick individual did this is found and brought to justice.

The last thing we want to imagine is that this could have been done by someone we know, but according to KDVR, the FBI believes the killer is known in the community. Click here and you can see some of the characteristics that could tip you to a potential suspect.

Last night several dozen people gathered in Fort Collins held a vigil for Ridgeway and her family, and already thousands of people are changing profile pictures and posting purple ribbons to show support for the Ridgeway's and to remember Jessica.
