Third Straight Loss: Angels 7, Rockies 2
The Colorado Rockies (24-33) lost for the third straight time last night, falling to the visiting Los Angeles Angels (30-29) 7-2 in interleague play. Angels right fielder Torri Hunter batted in six of the seven runs. Rockies starter Alex White got the loss. The two teams go again this afternoon at 2:10 at Coors Field (TV: Root Sports).

‘100 Days of Heat’ DUI Crackdown Starts This Weekend
Northern Colorado law enforcement agencies begin the ’100 Days of Heat’ DUI enforcement campaign this weekend, traditionally one of deadliest weekends on Colorado highways. The campaign will last through the summer, ending Labor Day weekend. In 2011, 67 Coloradoans were killed in alcohol-related crashes during the summer months.
High Wind Watch
The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch for Northern Colorado in effect from tomorrow afternoon through tomorrow evening. The strongest winds can be expected east of I-25, where gusts could reach 60 mph. Winds will be increasing by mid-morning, and will reach warning levels in the afternoon.
Rockies End Losing Streak, Beat Marlins 8-4
The Colorado Rockies (16-27) won for only the fifth time this month, taking the final game of the three-game series last night against the Miami Marlins (24-20) 8-4. This time it was Miami that blew the early lead, something Colorado has been doing frequently. The Rockies are off today, before starting a three-game series at Cincinnati tomorrow.

Rockies Collapse Against Visiting D-backs 9-7
The Colorado Rockies (15-22) bullpen couldn’t hold on against the Arizona Diamondbacks (17-22), en route to a 9-7 loss yesterday in Denver. All nine of the Arizona runs were scored with two outs. Colorado led 4-1 and 7-4 before finally coming up short. The Rockies open a 3-game series against the Seattle Mariners (16-24) tonight at 6:40 at Coors Field (TV: Root Sports).
Hewlett Fire Expanding, Now at 5000 Acres
The National Forest Service announced this morning that the Hewlett Fire burning in the Poudre Canyon is expanding. Just under 1000 acres yesterday, the fire has expanded to 5000 acreas, and is only 5% contained. Approximately 200 firefighters were working the fire yesterday. That number is expected to nearly double today.
Nuggets Eliminated with 96-87 Game 7 Loss to Lakers

That sums up the NBA first round playoff series between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers, which ended up with the Nuggets being eliminated last night in Game 7 at the Staples Center by the Lakers, 96-87. Los Angeles advances to face Oklahoma City in the second round on Monday.
