Filming of the Jimi Hendrix biopic ‘All Is by My Side’ is underway in Dublin, Ireland, and Andre 3000 seems to be adjusting just fine as the late iconic rock guitarist. Since the Hendrix estate is not supporting the project, the film will not feature original songs by Hendrix, but it will have Andre singing covers songs that Hendrix covered by well-known rock artists.

According to Rolling Stone, the film, which is set in London between 1966 and 1967 before Hendrix recorded his landmark debut album ‘Are You Experienced,’ will feature Andre covering songs by such artists as Elvis Presley (‘Hound Dog’), Muddy Waters (‘Mannish Boy’) and the Troggs (‘Wild Thing’).

Andre will also perform the Beatles classic tune ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,’ which the magazine points out that Hendrix once performed at a London club with members of the Beatles in attendance.

‘All Is by My Side’ producer Sean McKittrick describes the Hendrix biopic as a film set during Hendrix’s pre-fame era, so there was no need to ask the Hendrix estate for use of original music. “This is the story of Jimi being discovered as a backup musician and how he went to London and became Jimi Hendrix,” he said.

A rep for the Hendrix Experience, LLC frowned at the synopsis and tells Rolling Stone that the company was unaware non-Hendrix songs would be used in ‘All Is By My Side.’ “They want to make a Jimi Hendrix movie without Jimi Hendrix music,” said the rep. “It would be like making a movie about [Abraham] Lincoln without being able to use the Gettysburg Address.”

Producers hope to have ‘All Is by My Side’ completed in the fall and have it ready for the Sundance Film Festival in early 2013.
