Saturday, May 14, is International Chihuahua Appreciation Day. While I'm super happy chihuahuas have their very own holiday, I feel this sweet little breed should be appreciated every day.

International Chihuahua Appreciation Day is a day that Famous Chihuahua dedicates to honoring the legacy of Harley, Northern Colorado's hero dog who survived a chihuahua puppy mill. Unfortunately, Harley recently passed away, but his story continues to touch the lives of thousands of humans, dogs, and other animals. [Read about Harley's story HERE.]

My love for chihuahuas began in the late '90s when Taco Bell ran their "Yo quiero Taco Bell" advertising campaign with Gidget the chihuahua. I collected many of the Taco Bell Dog stuffed animals that the restaurant gave away with meals and even bought a Taco Bell Dog T-shirt from Target. Needless to say, I was hooked on chihuahuas, and it got to the point where, when my dogless family finally decided to get a family dog, it absolutely had to be a chihuahua.

Chihuahuas are amazing, and they have this way about making everyone's hearts just melt. Every hug and kiss is meaningful, and they can turn even the strongest "chihuahua haters" into hardcore fans of the breed.

I could go on and on and on and on about chihuahuas, because they are so, so special. Unfortunately, not everyone will understand this obsession. If you are a chihuahua owner, however, only you will understand these 10 things in the photo gallery below.
